Croque Monsieur
Ham, gruyère, béchamel — pressed and served warm. The deal everyone tells their friend about.
A small family café on Shattuck Avenue. Croissants, sandwiches, espresso, and a warm seat near the window. Catering, too.
The kitchen runs all day. Walk in, point, or order ahead.

Smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, red onion — on a poppy-seed bagel. Saturday's most-asked-for plate.
Strawberry, blueberry, blackberry, banana. Bright, not too sweet, perfect for a warm afternoon.
The counter looks different at 8a, at noon, and at 4p. Here's how the rhythm of the day unfolds.
Office breakfasts, baby showers, wedding mornings. We deliver a tray of warm pastries (and the coffee to match) anywhere in the East Bay.
Plan with us →Café Parisien is run by Ahcene "Ace" Mklat and his brother Hosine — a French-Algerian family raised between Algiers and Paris. Ace came up through years in food and beverage at the Fairmont in San Francisco before opening on Shattuck.
They opened their corner of Shattuck in June of 2024 with a simple wish: build the kind of neighborhood French café they missed. Croque monsieur at lunch, egg-and-cheese on a warm croissant in the morning, café au lait by the carafe.
Drop in any morning. Odds are one of them is behind the counter.
